Sixt Rent a Car is the world's oldest car rental company established in 1912 and has always strived to be at the field of new technologies, efficient solutions and the environment. Our slogan "The Spirit of Mobility" stands for the youngest and newest fleet in the car rental industry. The average age of our car fleet is about 6 months which means the newest and latest in environmental and technology.

A large part of the Sixt fleet consists of cars that run on alternative fuels, hybrid technology, bio-gas and clean diesel engines with particle filters.

Car hire industry is controlled by a number of relationships between suppliers and other stakeholders. We at Sixt Rent a Car is one of the major vehicle consumers in Sweden and are constantly working to improve the environment, this is done by working with our suppliers. We strive to make long-term cooperation, influence and improve the environmental compatibility of their own and our suppliers' businesses.

Sixt Rent a Car will work to influence people's attitudes towards car use. By renting, if necessary, instead of car ownership, reduced car use thus this also has a negative impact on the environment. If we can influence people to this change while we can provide environmentally friendly products then the environmentally profits are even higher.

The staff is continuously informed and updated with environmental issues and environmental awareness.

The objective of the environmental work.

Fleet

Strategic challenge: we continuously follow developments closely in order to offer even more options, such as hybrid, biogas and electricity. Only buy tires without damaging environment hazarders, emollient oils (HA-oils). We influence our suppliers actively to improve the environment.

Operational: Some ware  between 50-60% today of our fleet are green vehicles such as diesel cars with particle filters, ethanol cars, gas cars and hybrid cars. We also work constantly to have cars as Mercedes, BMW and Honda with the latest technology with environmental and safety. We try as far as possible to inform our customers about how to drive and use their car environmental friendly.

Rental Office

Strategic Objective: All our office supplies will be recycled.

Operational:  All the rental offices is now recycling paper. Even the return of toner and ribbons, etc. At each office we are recycling something.
Gradually, as much as possible of all the material should be replaced with environmentally friendly products.

Maintenance

Strategic Objective: All chemicals must be labeled.

Operational: Today, all of our rental offices are using environment-friendly products / wash facilities for cleaning of the cars. Where it´s possible use environmentally friendly fluids such as washer fluids, antifreeze and oils. All service are done at authorized service facilities with a certified quality processes.

Staff

Strategic objective: The staff should be trained in environmental issues. The organization must align its activities to some form of environmental certification.

Operational: Environmental Certification acc. ISO has begun and we expect to be environmentally certified in 2013. In the meantime, all staff will be continuously updated and trained in environmental science.
