  • 29.08.2013- 1 Series to rule them all

When you brand your cars as the ultimate driving machine you're marking a massive line in the sand, and very few actually live up to their reputation developed by the marketing team. I'm delighted, therefore, to say the 1 Series does nothing but strengthen the reputation of the brand.

Taking a lot of styling cues from the previous generation of the model, the new one grafts an updated (and rather handsome) front end onto the already recognizable bodywork. Creased metal work runs down the flanks ending in a short, squat rear end. In the M-Sport guise the 1 series combined perfectly curves and angles into beautiful form which is sure to win over a new generation of flanks.

Climb aboard the 1 series and you find the instantly recognizable fascia of the current crop of Bavarias' finest, with sports seats, a lot more room than lets on as well as a rather commodious bootspace for a car of it's class.

Under the bonnet the BMW 1 series has a range of 1.8 petrol or diesel engines as well as a 2.0l diesel engine which are connected to a hugely responsive 6 speed manual or 7 speed automatic. It's party piece, however, is the amazing MPG this car is capable of returning. In the right hands flick the on board dynamic settings into "eco pro", part of the new EffiecientDynamics range, and it is achievable to hit around 65mpg.

The fascia contains the iDrive platform, essentially the brain and heart of all BMW's for the past few years. Full bluetooth systems, DAB radio and diagnostic capabilites are controlled from the tips of your fingers.

The BMW, in typical fashion, stays true to form and combines rear wheel power with excellent and unrivalled front end grip. The feeling of driving a BMW is unique, and the 1 series concentrates the very essence of what a BMW should be into a smaller package. Perfect for long weekends in sweeping country locations, or soothing the stress of a long day at work, the BMW 1 series is a jack of all trades, master of most.

  • 29.08.2013- Sixt welcomes the Audi A1 back into the fleet

Few small cars have carved a reputation for being exceedlingly well built with a reputation that preceeds them. The Volkswagen Golf was able to create this through multiple generations of the loved hatchback, but now one of it's stablemates from Volkswagen AG could be about to add its name to the short list. The Audi A1. A car we are excited to welcome back into our fleet.

From the offset the A1 is every part an Audi, from the stylised sweeping curves that ripple through the body work, down to the intricate details found in the distinctive headlamps, finishing off in the centre with the famous 4 ringed logo. The segement of the market it's focused in, the compact class, belies thce true sporting nature that hides underneath the body work, although you can see the sporting credentials ripple from under the bodywork. The 17" alloy rims give an aggressive stance to the car, framed around the car by the S-line trim.

Climb aboard and the A1's seats are that perfect blend of a seat comfortable enough to ensure a relaxing trip along the motorway, yet show this car some corners and the seats will grip you tight as the refined A1 takes the turns in its stride with superb ride quality and turn-in that you come to expect from the marque.

Connected to the excellent 1.4l Petrol engine or 1.6l diesel engines you find a 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic (respectively). The automatics have a long higher gearing in order to keep the revs down, which, twinned to the diesel engine using Audi's award winning technology makes for a fantastically exciting yet practical car.

To top of the leather-lined cabin you find a "pop-up" style media centre which contains the FM/AM radio, bluetooth connectivity, CD/AUX player, and crucially, the inbuilt onboard Sat Nav.

So if you're looking for a car to thrill you for a weekend, to arrive in style at a function or simply to reward yourself for a job well done, look no further than Sixt and the Audi A1.

  • 11.12.2009- Guide to Victoria Station:

Victoria Station was opened nearly 150 years ago and is one of the busiest train stations in Greater London by providing a rail connection to Kent, Surrey, Sussex and Gatwick Airport. Victoria isalso part of the London Underground network with the Circle Line, District Line and Victoria Line all passing through the station.

The area around the station contains many of London's famous landmarks including Buckingham Palace, Westminster Abbey, the Houses of Parliament and Hyde Park, making it an ideal base for visitors to start exploring London from. If you are more interested in seeing the more fashionable areas of the capital you can quickly get to Convent Garden for it's market and food or you could go to Leicester Square where many films premieres are held throughout the year.

For those looking for a more cultural visit around London, the West End and the Albert Hall are a short distance away from Victoria Station, so whether you want to catch the latest theatre productions or you would like an evening of musical entertainment then it is certainly the place to be.
